SnapVault is a disk-based storage backup feature
of Data ONTAP that enables data stored on multiple
network appliances, and storage based on open
systems operating platforms, to be backed up to a
central, secondary filers storage system quickly and
efficiently.
In the event of data loss or corruption, data
that was protected by SnapVault can be restored from
your secondary storage system with less downtime
than is typically associated with conventional tape
backup and restore operations.
Centralized
Management
NetVault: Backup SnapVault Manager provides an
intuitive graphical front end that simplifies
configuring and managing SnapVault's data backup
services. SnapVault Manager replaces the command
line interface provided with the base SnapVault
product and provides a centralized console that
allows administrators to manage multiple SnapVault
environments with any number of clients.
The entire interface is seamlessly integrated
with the existing NetVault: Backup data protection
solution, allowing both systems to be consistently
administered by the same staff.
Integrated
Protection
When used in conjunction with NetVault®:
Backup, your system administrators have complete
control over an integrated solution that offers
high-speed backup to disk services with the extended
protection of tape-based backup for disaster
recovery purposes.
The combined solution allows the administrators
to commit critical application data to SnapVault for
its near-line availability and rapid restoration
capabilities, while directing other data backup
requirements to tape for long-term storage and
disaster protection.
