BakBone Virtual Tape Library (VTL)

NetVault®: Backup VTL presents your backup administrators with an abundance of new methods to augment and fine-tune current backup strategies. NetVault®: Backup creates a virtual tape library stocked with drives, slots, and media on disks.
This simplifies backing up from disk. Even better, the administrator can also take advantage of the random-access nature of disk-based devices to improve the performance of existing backup and restore jobs.
The module governs all the same features and operates in exactly the same manner as a real tape library.
Enhanced Administrator Productivity
- NetVault: Backup Disk-to-Disk allows the administrator to freely design any number of customized virtual libraries — each with its own specific number of tape drives, tape slots, and tape sizes — to precisely fit the situation at hand.
- NetVault: Backup Disk-to-Disk concurrently sorts multiple data streams from multiple clients on the LAN into single, complete data streams on disk.
- In turn, these data streams can be easily and smoothly migrated or duplicated to real tape for offsite storage, ensuring a fast restore from either tape or disk.
Increased Automation
NetVault: Backup Disk-to-Disk can stand on its own as a backup solution, but when it is coupled with
- a real tape library and
- NetVault: Backup with its value-added plugins
the potential of NetVault: Backup Disk to Disk is astounding!
Here's the way it works:
- Backup sets can automatically be migrated or duplicated to real tape media, allowing optimal data transfer to the tape drive.
- This eliminates the need to wait for packets from a LAN and the speed of processing Incremental Backup Consolidations can be increased dramatically.
- This combination allows administrators to have the best of both worlds: keeping offsite backups elsewhere, and retaining fresh backups on disk for ultra-fast restores.
