Enterprise Server & Storage Consulting Services & Sales
As data volumes grow and budgets shrink, backup is often caught in the middle. If you’re concerned with delayed backups, reliability of restores, remote protection, or virtual server backup, data deduplication technology provides an affordable, easy-to-implement solution that saves you time and money.
Data deduplication is also a method of reducing storage needs by eliminating redundant data. Only one unique instance of the data is actually retained on your storage media, such as a hard disk or tape drive. Redundant data is replaced with a pointer to the unique data copy. For example, a typical email system might contain several hundred instances of the same 5 megabyte file attachment. If the email platform is backed up or archived, all 200 instances are saved, requiring 1,000 MBs of storage space. With data deduplication, only one instance of the attachment is actually stored; each subsequent instance is just referenced back to the one saved copy.
Data deduplication offers other benefits. Lower storage space requirements will also save money on disk expenditures. The more efficient use of disk space also allows for longer disk retention periods, which provides better recovery time objectives (RTO) for a longer time and reduces the need for tape backups. Data deduplication also reduces the data that must be sent across a WAN for remote backups, replication, and disaster recovery.
While data deduplication is important, it’s even more important to know how easy it is to integrate this technology into your existing backup. An Abtech engineer can provide a customized evaluation of your environment, and will forecast the amount of savings that you might see.
By partnering with multiple leaders of data deduplication technology, Abtech can provide you with the best solution that fits your organization's budget and needs.
